The aquarium sensors you already have in Home Assistant, in TankTutor
Choose your sensors and the integration sends their readings to the tank page: temperature, pH, conductivity, salinity, ammonia, air and events such as a water leak. The assistant knows the latest values.

What reaches TankTutor
For each tank you choose at most one sensor per measurement type. The integration works one way: it sends readings, does not create entities in Home Assistant and does not read data from TankTutor.
- Water temperatureIn °C or °F; TankTutor stores it in °C.
- pHNo unit.
- ConductivityIn µS/cm; values in mS/cm or S/cm are converted.
- SalinityIn ppt or as specific gravity (SG): you choose the unit. Marine and brackish tanks only.
- AmmoniaIn mg/L or ppm. You say whether the sensor measures free (NH₃) or total ammonia.
- AirAir temperature and humidity, in the tank's "Ambient" panel.
- EventsFrom an on/off sensor: water leak, low level, high level or a name of your own (at most 10 per tank). The urgent email is already on for leaks; for the other events you turn it on in the tank's "Sensor events" section.
Water parameters go into the tank's history and charts.
What you need
- A TankTutor account with at least one tank.
- Home Assistant with HACS installed.
- A device key for each tank you connect: at most 4 active keys per account, counting all tanks.
How to install it
- Install the integration from HACSIn HACS add a custom repository with the address
https://github.com/tanktutor-org/tanktutor-homeassistantand the type "Integration", then install TankTutor. - Create a device keyIn TankTutor, on the tank page, open the "Device keys" section and generate a new key. Copy it right away: it is shown only once.
- Add TankTutor in Home AssistantAdd the TankTutor integration and paste the key; the API address is already filled in. The key is checked immediately: a wrong or revoked key is refused, otherwise the entry takes the name of your tank.
- Choose the sensorsIn the integration's options, pick the sensor to use for each measurement type and add the events. From then on the readings are sent on their own.
For another tank, repeat steps 2, 3 and 4: each tank has its own key.
What is sent
- Only the sensors you chose, and for each one only the type, value, unit and time of the reading.
- No identifier, name, area or other data about your Home Assistant entities.
- An unusable value (unknown, unavailable, not a number or with an unsupported unit) is never sent.
- The key stays in the integration's configuration and is never written to the logs.
Limits to know
- TankTutor accepts at most one submission every 5 minutes per account, for all tanks together. For numeric values the latest reading of each sensor is sent, not every change.
- An event that turns on is sent as soon as the limit allows: it can arrive a few minutes late.
- If TankTutor cannot be reached, readings stay in a queue, even across a Home Assistant restart, and are sent as soon as possible. Readings older than 7 days are discarded.
- Salinity is accepted only for marine and brackish tanks: on a freshwater tank it is ignored.
- If the key is revoked, Home Assistant asks you for a new key and checks it before saving it.
For developers
The integration is open source under the MIT license. You can also skip the integration and send readings with an HTTP request and a device key: the API is described in the documentation.
